Eco

Charly Poppins is a design group based in San Diego that prides itself on creating unique  living spaces, furniture, lighting, and livable art. In addition to designing efficient and attractive pieces to complement your space,  Charly  Poppins  also  makes  a
commitment to preserving the world around us by using 60%-90% recycled natural materials found in our shared San Diego environment. We are continuously inspired to create something new using something once forgotten. We handcraft most of the pieces we incorporate into each of our clients' one-of-a-kind projects, and aim to allow our structures to work with, rather than against, the natural setting. This creates a flow to the space that distinctively reflects YOU as an element of our beautiful city.

Design

Our personalized pieces are largely inspired by nature. Due to our French heritage & travel experiences, our designs remain practical while reflecting our influences from around the world. We focus our projects on four conceptual designs :
Contemporary, Scandinavian, Natural, and Industrial. We aim to maintain a constant balance and delicate tension between these concepts in the development of each individual item.

Meet the team

Yann Salvatge, CEO / Lead Design
I was born and raised in Provence, in the south of France. My mother, an artist and professor, created and managed art schools for over twenty years and sparked a love in me for all things beautiful. Throughout my childhood, I was constantly surrounded by creative energy: I watched while she illustrated books and directed artistic projects in our home, traveled with her around the country to see and produce new works, and witnessed her passion for beauty in everything she pursued. Whether I was sitting in on her classes, visiting extraordinary European art exhibits, or making costumes with my grandmother, I developed a great love of and fascination with art. I always knew I belonged to this magical and creative world, and I am excited to contribute to it with my work at Charly Poppins.
When I was old enough to set out on my own, I embarked on a three year journey abroad, traveling and working in Europe, the Caribbean, and New York City. Throughout my adventures I discovered architectural wonders, sumptuous resorts and restaurants, and breathtaking galleries and museums - memories I use as inspiration to this day.
In 2011, I decided to move to San Diego, a city that attracted me with its relaxed atmosphere, urban diversity, and an abundance of natural beauty. Charly Poppins was born when my neighbor came to me one day looking for help building a deck. We made a deal: in exchange for my services, he would lend me his tools. I was able to start making pieces and designing spaces with borrowed tools and resources found discarded in alleyways and warehouses. Finally, after a year of trading work for materials, I have my own workshop, equipment, and a business that lets me live out my passion for handcrafting beauty every day.
All of my experiences thus far have created a sort of vision - like sorting through a virtual filing cabinet in my head filled with beauty, textures, colors, patterns, and styles. All of my projects are imbued with this spirit and adventure that I acquired from my life and my dreams for the future. My mother and I aim to continually create a world that is an endlessly morphing work of art, and we are excited to share that world with you.
Martine Salvatge, COO Lead Design
After my interior design studies in Paris, I returned to my native Provence in the south of France, working as a graphic designer and decorator for a couple years. Then, I opened two paint shops in Marseille. Teaching became a passion where I developed very quickly creative tools. I accompanied each and every student in a personal work until they became independent. I painted and exposed my art and Yann quickly took pleasure in helping me in my projects. I took him to several exhibitions visits and was delighted to see him enjoying contemporary art as much as me.
Meanwhile, I organized travel themed courses for students, in Guadeloupe & Tuscany, linking my love of painting and travel.
In 2010, I created a contemporary art festival in which I welcome artists and put them on stage in a magical place. My ability to develop and magnify the space allows me to create a link between artists and value their work.
My life took a new turn when in 2013 when Yann asked me to come to San Diego and work with him. The pleasure of creating living spaces and furniture had never left me during all these years and it is with enthusiasm and happiness that I shared this new adventure with him. Customers love our creativity, our relationship and our story.
In 2016, I returned to France and settled Uzès, a place that inspires me for its architectural beauty and its generous nature. While continuing to work together on new projects in the United States, we decided to export and develop the concept "Charly Poppins" in France.

"Creativity is contagious, pass it on" - Albert Einstein. could be the motto of my life.
